Our corn, the only certified non-GMO corn in Santa Barbara County, stands tall, a testament to our dedication to pure, pesticide-free farming. We prioritize biodiversity, welcoming beneficial insects like wasps to naturally control pests. The corn we grow is a vibrant mosaic of six colors, each kernel nurtured with care and harvested for a variety of uses. At Sweet Wheel, we uphold the ancient practice of nixtamalization, enhancing the nutritional value of our corn for the creation of wholesome masa, tortillas, and tortilla chips.
Why is this project important?
Offering a unique, health-conscious alternative to mass-produced corn products, our farm serves as a beacon for sustainable agriculture. We need volunteers to join us in various aspects of our corn project, from planting and tending the fields to harvesting and processing. Every part of the corn is utilized - silks for silk tea, kernels for tortillas, husks for tamales, and even the cob as a fire starter. By volunteering with us, you’re not just contributing to the success of a local farm; you’re part of the organic, regenerative agriculture movement!
